7 good reasons to invest in SIPs

Fact No. 1: Over a long term horizon, equity investments have given returns which far exceed those from the debt based instruments. They are probably the only investment option, which can build large wealth. Fact No. 2: In short term, equities exhibit very sharp volatilities, which many of us find difficult to stomach. Fact No. 3: Equities carry lot of risk even to the extent of loosing ones entire corpus. Fact No. 4: Investment in equities require one to be in constant touch with the market. Fact No. 5: Equity investment requires a lot of research. Fact No. 6: Buying good scrips require one to invest fairly large amounts.
Systematic Investing in a Mutual Fund is the answer to preventing the pitfalls of equity investment and still enjoying the high returns. And it makes all the more sense today when the stock markets are booming. (Also Read - 5 corners of a sound Investing Strategy)

1. It’s an expert’s field – Let’s leave it to them
Management of the fund by the professionals or experts is one of the key advantages of investing through a mutual fund. They regularly carry out extensive research  - on the company, the industry and the economy – thus ensuring informed investment. Secondly, they regularly track the market. Thus for many of us who do not have the desired expertise and are too busy with our vocation to devote sufficient time and effort to investing in equity, mutual funds offer an attractive alternative. (Read more - The Investors biggest Dilemma)

2. Putting eggs in different baskets
Another advantage of investing through mutual funds is that even with small amounts we are able to enjoy the benefits of diversification. Huge amounts would be required for an individual to achieve the desired diversification, which would not be possible for many of us. Diversification reduces the overall impact on the returns from a portfolio, on account of a loss in a particular company/sector.

3. It’s all transparent & well regulated
The Mutual Fund industry is well regulated both by SEBI and AMFI. They have, over the years, introduced regulations, which ensure smooth and transparent functioning of the mutual funds industry. This makes it safer and convenient for investors to invest through the mutual funds. (Check out - Foolproof strategies to maximize your profits)

4. Market timing becomes irrelevant
One of the biggest difficulties in equity investing is WHEN to invest, apart from the other big question WHERE to invest. While, investing in a mutual fund solves the issue of ‘where’ to invest, SIP helps us to overcome the problem of ‘when’. SIP is a disciplined investing irrespective of the state of the market. It thus makes the market timing totally irrelevant. And today when the markets are high, it may not be prudent to commit large sums at one go. With the next 2-3 years looking good from Indian Economy point of view, one can expect handsome returns thru’ regular investing.

5. Does not strain our day-to-day finances
Mutual Funds allow us to invest very small amounts (Rs 500 – Rs 1000) in SIP, as against larger one-time investment required, if we were to buy directly from the market. This makes investing easier as it does not strain our monthly finances. It, therefore, becomes an ideal investment option for a small-time investor, who would otherwise not be able to enjoy the benefits of investing in the equity market.
6. Reduces the average cost
In SIP we are investing a fixed amount regularly. Therefore, we end up buying more number of units when the markets are down and NAV is low and less number of units when the markets are up and the NAV is high. This is called rupee-cost averaging. Generally, we would stay away from buying when the markets are down. We generally tend to invest when the markets are rising. SIP works as a good discipline as it forces us to buy even when the markets are low, which actually is the best time to buy. (Read more - Invest wisely and get rich with equity MFs)

7. Helps to fulfill our dreams
The investments we make are ultimately for some objectives such as to buy a house, children’s education, marriage etc. And many of them require a huge one-time investment. As it would usually not be possible raise such large amounts at short notice, we need to build the corpus over a longer period of time, through small but regular investments. This is what SIP is all about. Small investments, over a period of time, result in large wealth and help fulfill our dreams & aspirations.

Investments and making money

SIP is a way of investing in Mutual Funds where you pay a fixed amount each month for a fixed tenure.
Like If you take an SIP of 5,000 for 1 year on Jan 1 , 2008 , you will be paying Rs 5,000 per month for next 12 months.
Please understand that its not a financial instrument , but a way of investing in mutual funds , some people confuse SIP with PPF ,NSC , and mutual funds , they think they can invest in “SIP” , its just a mode of investment.

When to invest in mutual funds through SIP ?
Investment through SIP must be done only when markets are uncertain or very volatile , when you dont know which side they are headed to ..

Read Magic of SIP
SIP will be beneficial only if markets really are volatile or going down after you invested. If it happens that markets turns bullish and starts going up , in that case SIP will not be beneficial and will give less return compared to lumpsum investment in start.
SIP is a simple concept and hence very powerful , lets see some reasons why its worth investing through SIP
Reasons to invest through SIP in Mutual Funds?
More convenient for average person on wallet
Its more easy for a person to invest in small amount every month , rather than a lump sum amount. Investing through SIP is lighter on wallet. Its easy to pay Rs 5,000 per month for 1 years , rather than investing 60,000 at a same time.
It brings your average cost price for unit down (in volatile market)
The biggest advantage of SIP is this part , There is a concept of rupee-cost averaging, In SIP you buy less when market and NAV are UP and you get more units when they are low. When this happens , the average cost of per unit is lower.
Lets take an example of “Ajay” who invests 1,000 per month through SIP starting Jan 2 , 2007.

How SIP helps in this case ? See the result below :

ADVANTAGES
- Makes you a disciplined Investor
The other advantage of SIP is that it makes you a disciplined investor,. Once you start SIP , each month you have to contribute certain money in mutual fund and that habit is cultivated.

DISADVANTAGES :

- It will not work in bullish markets or when market goes up over time

When market goes up and keeps growing over time , the units bought every time will be at high price then the previous one, which will ultimately bring the average cost up , compared to the lump sum investment at the start.
- In case of tax saving fund , the lock in period gets extended for every investment.

Tax saver mutual funds lock your money for 3 yrs, When you invest through SIP , each of your investment is locked separately for 3 yrs from the date of investment. So if you pay your first installment on Jan 2007 , it will locked till Jan 1 2010 , then the instalment paid on Feb 1 , 2007 will be locked till Feb 1 , 2010 and like this each instalment will be locked with the gap of 1 month .

Sharp your Brain

Five Simple Brain Exercises

The premise of these brain aerobics or neurobics is to do familiar things, but do them slightly differently.

Switch Hands

So, a really easy thing to do is to try one of your daily activities -- brushing your teeth or dialing a phone number -- with your non-dominant hand. I used my left hand to brush my teeth this morning and it's a lot harder than you realize. I really had to concentrate. And basically, what that does, apparently, is strengthen those pathways and connections in the opposite side of your brain.

Close Your Eyes

Try a safe activity, like eating or showering, with your eyes closed. That forces you to use and strengthen your other senses. Most of what your brain does is process what your senses are bringing in. So, closing your eyes forces the brain to process that information in new ways. But one thing you obviously shouldn't do with your eyes closed is drive.

Play Games

Games help you strategize, but the brain is particularly stimulated by multi-tasking. So, play games with other people that require you to strategize and interact socially at the same time. Examples include board, word and card games.

Don't Get Repetitive, Do Something Different

Introducing novelty is crucial. Your brain doesn't need anything complicated; it just needs something new. So, take a new way to work, or sit in a different seat. It forces you to look at the world from a new perspective.

Watch What You Consume

You want to make sure to consume brain-boosting foods or supplements. Try antioxidants in food, such as berries, tea, and leafy greens. And you also want to consume fish oils, which also come in supplements.

In The Bourne Ultimatum (IMDB), the CIA needs to hack the mail server of a newspaper (The Guardian UK) to read the email of a reporter they assassinated. So they turn to Nmap and its new official GUI Zenmap to hack the mail server! Nmap reports that the mail server is running SSH 3.9p1, Posfix smtpd, and a name server (presumably bind). They also make substantial use of Bash, the Bourne-again shell. Congratulations to Roger Chui for being the first to spot this. He also sent a scene transcript and the following HD screen shots.

Other movies which have used Nmap include: Matrix Reloaded, Bourne Ultimatum, 13: Game of Death, Battle Royale, The Listening, and, uhh, HaXXXor: No Longer Floppy. Screens shots of Nmap in all of these movies are available on our new Nmap movies page. Nmap has become quite the movie star!

Now It is up to you if you would like to watch movies or learn the tricks used in them.
